1969 Fender Jazz Bass: Questions
Hello. I am hoping a resident expert might be able to shed some light and make potential recommendations for this novice. This was my dad's bass that he purchased brand new in NYC.
Basically, the body (after being sanded and stained), bridge (after restoring post Bad Ass mod), and tuners are for sure original. The original neck, I still have, was also sanded and the TR was protruding out of the 1st fret of the rosewood fretboard. I replaced the neck with a Japanese Fender reissue neck (also rosewood with mother of pear block inlays).
There are two sets of PU's but I don't know how to tell which are original. Should I replace with Aguilar for example or get the OG's back in there once identified... or the reissues? I believe the PU's that are in there are reissue from the Fender Custom Shop, where the neck is also from, but I have another set in the original hard shell case that I assume are the originals.
I'd like to know how to identify original PU's, tuning gears and bridge. I'd also like to know if I should just mod now that the vintage element is gone based on sanding and replacement of neck or if I should still keep it as vintage as possible. This bass will never be sold as it means a lot to me, but unfortunately, so many changes were made prior to my inheritance.
