1987 MIJ "Special" P/J bass?

Some guy is selling a 1987 MIJ bass with a Jazz neck, P and J pickups and a weird 3-way switch. What do you guys know about this type of bass?

Low-res but that's what I got:

MIA fenders are 2k there? damn. My girlfriend is in israel right now and has lived there prior and when she bought her les paul she got it here as it was like 4k there and i think 2500 here.

But those basses here sell right around 500$ , people post them for 700$ or more but they dont sell at that price. I bought 2 for 400$ , so 650$ over there doesnt seem to bad.

Gotcha. I noticed the re-issue is active, what about the original though? I haven't had an active bass in years... I hate batteries.

Those are some damn fine basses. I own 2 of 'em,one is bone stock, and in mint condition, the other has been gigged-to-death and modded with DiMarzio pups,Badass Bridge, and a Hipshot D-tuner (owned it since '87). I couldn't ask for a better straight up rock bass.

I had that bass in the fretless version. Yes it's active. Great instrument. The value of active electronics far outweighs arduousness of batteries. Go rechargeable?
I'd say it's worth 650 if it's in good condition. Otherwise mim p/j formats can be found here on tb classifieds for around that price or less. USA--around 800 to 1,000usd.

I love the power chord at the end! You don't have to be a GnR lover or even love rock n roll to appreciate his work, IMO.

A great producer/arranger/songwriter as well as a terrific bass player, obviously has a great ear. Also a multi-intrumentalist, my friend considers him the "Marcus Miller of rock".

I've got a version of this bass(sort of). It's passive w/ no switch. They are really great for just about anything...this one is a little too red to be a true rock n roll bass though, plus it's a Squier:

Sweet! I just pulled out my MIJ Precision and started practicing riffs with a pick, it sounds so good.

I can't wait to try this bass on Friday!

The guy led me around for 2 weeks and when we finally agreed on a day to meet, he SMS'd me saying that he discovered it's worth more than he posted it for and that I should basically go &^#* myself. Meh.

That's garbage.

I was the winning bidder on an item on the 'bay recently, likely for much less than the actual value. I received a note stating that the item was damaged by the seller's cat....it's now at a shop being repaired...

...Sounds like "the dog ate his homework". I'm pretty bummed.

I'm sending good vibes to Lowphat and Bulhorn for a new bass. I just scored this rare Aerodyne Precision Bass special Classic non-import. Holy Crap is this this amazing. It is nicer than my MIA 97 natural/maple Jazz that is mint. MIJ hype is for real, very nice stuff. Threre is a guy on Youtube that does all the GnR cover that has his tone to a tee. This is what he is playing now and sold his Duff sig since this bass was "Better" in his words.
