Good luck with the shielding. I wish Fender would put more of these out so the used market would have a few more. | Funny, I have a 2007 Squier V with Fender SCN pickups and audere pre, and it's dead quite. The kicker is, it has NO shielding whatsoever! lol |

I just put in the Fralins. TV was giving me the business even with pickups dimed. Turned that jewel off and no hum with both dimed. We'll see how it is cranked through the PA.
I love the look of the new Deluxes!!

| | | | I can deal with hum or slight buzz. The part I hate is the pop from the grounding. So if I don't touch any metal, there is a hum. As soon as I touch and metal, *pop* . I'm tempted to keep the SCNs in but I'm at a loss on how to stop the pop. I'm Defintely trying shielding next.

Fender still told him it might be up to 90 days wait but with the deal I'm getting it'll be worth it
I'm not really into buying "new" basses but I really want one of these bad

They are supposed to be Fender 8250-5M strings, the B and E are supposed to be taperwound. My 2008 had them straight from the factory, and one year after owning it, Fender changed the taper length's specs and the taper barely sits over the saddle now. Just wondering if the 2010 is going to do the same thing? Did anyone replace their strings with Fenders 8250's yet? |

I got my transparent wine red 4-string deluxe jazz about 3 weeks ago and yes, there's lots of noise when I'm not touching the strings. Just wondering if anyone got this issue solved as part of the warranty? Another thing, if I do a proper shielding myself, would I lose the Fender warranty?
First gig with the new bass tomorrow, can't wait! :-)
All best from Geneva,
Bartek

If I touch the strings and then the bridge pup its lots worse. I had a similar problem with single coils on my 62 reissue J which was resolved by copper foil entire insides, two pickup cavity shields (fender part) and a brass ground strap soldered to the bridge cavity shield and runs to under the bridge. Shields the bridge pup directly to the bridge and cavity ground. That fixed the problem with two single coils and I have an Audere preamp in that bass. Super quiet now. My hopes are high and this may be overkill, but I'm going to copper foil or use conductive paint in the whole inside under the control cavity and both pickups then do the the two cavity shields as well. Hopefully that will do it. Called Fender and they want me to take it to a regional dealer about an hour away. After reading various threads about pickups being replaced and up to four months going back and forth I think I'll try this first. While waiting for supplies as a temp fix I soldered a wire to a small piece of copper foil I had and placed it on the bottom of the bridge pup (most noise coming from there) to the cavity ground to ground the pole pieces. It took a little bit of the hum away and will help till supplies arrive. I've read from several folks that shielding did work for them so I've got high expectations. I've read nothing about a magic wiring fix. If anyone gets any details on one, please share.

For those of you that have purchased the new 2010+ Fender American Deluxe Jazz basses, how do you feel they still stack up?
I'm considering of picking one up soon. I may actually sell a Gibson to accomplish it.
I'm not interested in a passive jazz. I'm either interested in picking up a deluxe 4 or actually going all out and getting a used CS for around 2k.
I've looked on Youtube and only found one or two lackluster reviews. All the rest of the videos are in Spanish (which are fun to watch).
I also noticed that there aren't a lot of used ones around. Ebay has a good amount, but most are new or are being offered my an online music company.
So my last question... Assuming I decide to get one. How on Earth will I manage to try one out without actually committing to order one from GC? Thanks!

I have taken out my electronics to copper foil the cavity and for some reason I can get the active side working again. Passive works fine SO I believe it's in the way I hooked back the batteries. I took pictures of the preamp wiring for reference to put all of it back together but I didn't take pics of the battery box or output jack. I remembering thinking the batteries are wired different then I'm used to but I can remember how.
Can someone explane how to wire the batteries from the jack to each other to the preamp. Or a link to a schematic for this.
Thanks. Wes

I think I've tried everything and I've been up all night for two nights trying to fix it with no luck. I've now come to all of you hoping maybe some would be able to enlighten me. Please!

Just my to cents on the bass...
My main bass WAS a Roscoe, not for the sound as much but the feel. Just made a trip to Bass Central last week and tried many basses thanks to the great staff there open new bass box after another just for me (great guys). I was in awe of the tone and feel of the fender ADJV. The almost satin finish on the back and gloss on the front of the neck felt perfect fun running and sliding up and down the neck. (Never though I would like the gloss) and the tone (passive or active was almost too good to be true. The string spacing just felt so natural for finger style or slap. They even let me try a very expensive elrick and I instantly ran back to the Fender.
Never thought I would ever be a Fender guy again!
Let me ask you guys, I have the natural/maple I think it would like great to have the pickguard match the blocks on the neck. Does anyone know where to get the matching pickguard?

I still enjoy playing mine and have recently treated it to a set of rotosound flatwound 77s, I did have to tweak the neck slightly to cope with a bit of extra tension .
I normally play in passive but have occasionally used in active when playing in a very `dead` room which needed more middle, the active set up is very natural sounding to me, far more than my last active only bass, Ibannez BTB 770 .
Love this bass as if it was my third child
