2010 MIA PBass identification

I've got a guy selling what he claims to be a 2010 MIA PBass. Problem is, the guy he bought it from took the neck and pickguard off it and put them on a custom build. Current owner put a Washburn neck on it and a gold anodized PG. Plays, looks and sounds good. Looks like a nice PBass body, but so do tons of others that are not MIA or even Fender. With changed neck, no serial number. Nothing on the neck plate either. Any clues in confirming origin? What all should I look for if I can get him to take it apart. Thanks.

Is the body a string-thru design? If so, chances are its an American body. That's really the only thing I can think of as far as IDing a Fender from the exterior.

The newer ones (2007/2008 and up) have a high mass bridge, which is different then the standard bent plate most common on most P-Basses. And, the option of stringing through the body, as mentioned.

Also is there a route in the body at the neck pocket for the heel truss rod adjustment? Do the two knobs have set screws or do they just slide on?

One of the best things about those model P-Basses are the necks.

I hope it's being sold at a significant discount as any resale value as a P-Bass is pretty much shot. If it feels good and sounds good, then it should be fine. But if you decide to sell it, it may be problematic.

I agree about the neck. Without that new neck, it's not all that.

its worth the price of a loaded American Standard body, provided all the other bolt-ons and electronics are accurate, and no extra drilling was required for the modifications ... JMHO

Edit to add: ... unless of course, this is an American Special ... then it is worth the price of a loaded AmSpec body ...

Everyone did as I did, and assumed that this is an American Standard ... if it is an AmSpec, there will be no high mass bridge, no string thru body ...

Thanks everybody. The one thing that I can say for sure is that it is not string through and the bridge looks like a standard bridge. Is there not supposed to by any markings on the neck plate? This has nothing.

Oren .. if you like it and it plays well and sounds good, then you need to assign a value ... if you can post some pictures it would help, but w/o STB this is at best a AmSpec, and unless it is not a 2010, it could be a Hwy 1 or ONE ...

Yeah - thanks tjk.. I looked at it and played it yesterday and it's still in the owner's possesion, so no pics. My biggest concern is that it's not a Fender at all from anywhere. I've got a nice Jazz neck that will fit it, but wanted to use it on a quality body. Price is $200.

For $200, I'd do it.

Hell, the parts are probably worth more than that if it plays junky...

No string thru= no am std. Does it at least have the cnc donut holes? Am special bodies pretty much look just like mexican bodies. 2 am stds I owned had date stamped on the neck joint of the body. American fenders have much thinner paint than mexi fenders too.
