32" scale strings

A question for you medium scale players: do you tend to use heavier strings on your 32-inchers?

hdracer 12-18-2012 02:30 PM

Nope
But I use flats so I don't have to worry about tension

Nope. Labella Deep Talkin' flats in light gauge on everything. No problem.

Aluminium Beard 12-18-2012 02:36 PM

But if you used rounds, would you up the gauge a bit?

Nope. D'Addario EXL-170s on two of em, 165s on another.

Are you having issues not being able to get the action as low as you'd like? What kind of bass are we talking about?

I put the 165s (105-85-65-45) on my Fender Reverse Jaguar because they feel "right" on it.

You do not have a lot of choices with medium scale basses

I use regular (34") scale strings. I tried medium scale D'Addarios on a SD Curlee I once owned and the taper barely made it to the nut. The rest of my basses seem to have been designed so the string winding doesn't reach the tuner post.

Yes. On my 34" scale basses, I tend to use 40-100s, on my 32" scale basses, I use 45-105s, but I am thinking of upping that to 50-110s.
