Thoughts? (Yes, it's a Carlo Robelli...)

Number please?

Why replace the pots? are they bad, or just "scratchy"

When I went to look at this bass, it was obvious that it hadn't been touched in a while. The strings were dead as a door nail, and it was very dusty (No case or bag...). After replacing the strings and cleaning things up, I began noticing the problems with the electronics.

The blend pot is just scratchy, but the 'active-passive' switch attached to the volume control is bad - sometimes the front pickup is not connected when the switch is used. I can't just replace the switch, the whole pot/switch assembly must be replaced.

Also, the pots are not expensive, and I can do the work myself. It might help resale if I decide to flip it in a couple of months, so why not? Even if I decide to keep it and swap the entire electronics out, I'm only out about $20 for the pots.

would have been to ask if it was a DIY, or having someone else do the work, and I would have suggested that opening up the pots to clean them would have been cheaper.
But since parts are that cheap, and you're doing it your self just take good notes and get the same parts

I have a Squier MB-5 (don't laugh), and I find that the neck feels spectacular and it fits my needs perfectly. I'll post pics as soon as I can. Can I have a member number? :3

I'm in! I've been playing a 5 string exclusively since the late 80's. The one I've had the longest is now a 35" scale fretless 5. It started life as a cheap 5 string fretted Washburn. After I replaced the pickups with EMG's, added two preamps with active BTM for the neck and an EMG mid boost for the bridge, I moved the neck out 1/2" and the same with the bridge, and replaced the fingerboard with a fretless bubinga board I cut. I last replaced the body with a mahagony body I built. My second oldest is the 1995 Peavey Axcellerator 5. I currently play the Variax 705 mostly, and the junker parts MM type bass for my backup. (That cost me around $100 to put together.) The others include a Squier Pro Tone, JB Player and Dean acoustics and a Steinberger Spirit. Most have been modified with better preamps, pickups, etc.

I still have two 4 strings, a Fender Jazz Bass Special, and a headless Explorer bass I built in the early 80's. I use them when giving lessons only.

Yes sir.

#545 Tcaetano - The absence of a pickguard looks very nice on this instrument.
#546 Steve Dallman - Welcome!

I guess I am already in, but there is a new 5-String in da House, that just has blown me away. What an awesome Bass. Best "Bang for the Buck" that I've ever played. For that Money they easily can compare with the Skyline Basses for Example. BIG Recommendation: CORT ARONA 5 (wich they've made with Sandberg.

I want to join. This is my '89 Stringray 5. Has SGD Lutherie 2 band preamp and a Moses Graphite neck. Plays and sounds really great.

@AREA - That's a very nice finish. Cort puts out some nice stuff that they don't seem to get enough credit for. I like their tribute basses re: Curbow, though I wish they'd release new 6-string versions. There are a few used ones floating around from their original production. They haven't put out any sixes in the re-launch over the last year+.
