| | | | 62 jazz refinished and refretted http://elderly.com/vintage/items/55U-4868.htm
GC except alder body has been completely refinished natural and played hard for years, bass was originally sunburst with finish still under neck plate and in neck pocket, back of maple neck is stained from years of use and finish is worn through the entire length, Brazilian rosewood curved veneer board with clay dots, 20 jumbo replacement frets, neck dated "7 SEP 62 A," original pickups, neck volume, tone pots and gounding strip, pot code is "3046114," tortoise-w-b-w pickguard, original bridge plate with later saddles (originals are in case), string mutes are removed and holes filled, all parts appear to be correct unless noted, the playability and sound are remarkable, replacement 1-1/2" bone nut, 34" scale, 8.8 lbs, with newer ('70/80s) Fender® HSC (orange lining)
Does that seem like a reasonable price? Talked to a couple people at Elderly and they're really helpful and knowledgeable. Neck is straight, no hump and pups are strong and growly. Price seems to be close to what my vintage guitar price guide says but wanted to check with that forum and get some opinions. As always, thanks for the help! |

and this body refin went for 5500 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1962-FENDER-...p2047675.l2557
so i guess the elderly bass isnt too bad of a price. a body refin would run 3-400 bucks if you wanted to go that route which puts you at the price of those ebay basses. i know my 62 jazz is one hell of a bass! |

| | | | It is the high end of market price. A note is if you intend to keep it and not sell it later on then no worries. But know that if you decide it is not what you were hoping or simply look to move it later on you will lose money on it. Because a dealer will give much less if you sell it to them and privately you will probably take a hit as well. Hope this helps. |

| | | | It does help! Thanks for the replies!
I'm looking at refinished ones because the originals are just way out of my price range. Not this is cheap by any such of the imagination!
Looking to get one that will pay me a long time. It doesn't have the dreaded neck hump and from what they said (they're not pushy)and my inside source on TB it's a really solid bass. But it has been there since January...
Just don't want to end up with something that has a bunch of issues and save a couple bucks. GC in Richmond has a 62 for $3999, but has pg holes filled in and a little hump at the 12th fret. So I could save some dough with that one... |

I'd say it's the going rate for a refin (nofin) that's fully functional without any major issues, just wear.
It's still there because it needs to find a buyer that's looking for exactly that - someone that doesn't mind the cosmetics. If you're ready to drop $5K on a bass you have a lot of options, especially on the boutique side.
If you're looking for a solid vintage piece this could very well be it. Of course, you won't know until you actually try it out, but the price is fair. Plus Elderly has a solid rep.

From your previous posts in a similar thread you started, it seems like this would be a good match for you. It has all original (working) electronics and has been played in (which means it's a great bass and not a dog). If you can talk them down in price to a place where you are comfortable, then go for it.

He had at least one of the vintage P-basses listed in stock. I'm not sure about J-basses. This guy knows everyone in the business, and could surely help you track something down.
FYI, the double-neck Rick sold for $17.5K to somebody in Japan. |

No issues at all and one of the best sounding jazz basses I've ever heard. I'm thinking of posting it up here soon but I saw this thread and thought I'd throw it out there. pM me for pics |

So Sept 62 is technically outside this range and so the board should be a thick veneer. Worth a check for sure.
So $5000 is highish for a refin but if she's a beaut then probably not a bad deal.
It has to feel right in your hands obviously!

| | | | Here's one at the Richmond, VA Guitar Center. Hope this works.
Here are the details in this one...
Looks like pickups had been replaced at some point, and then originals put back in. Can’t verify that the pots are original as too much ugly soldering.
-********* Neck matches the body, it is from March, 1962.
-********* My tech looked at the neck and said that is has fall away after the 12th fret, he didn’t see a hump.
-********* String height – 12th fret: E = 7/64 ***G = 6/64,** 20th fret: E = 10/64, G = 8/64
-********* Electronics are good, nothing scratchy and are fully functional.
-********* We have the original hardshell case, but unfortunately the pickguard is the only thing in it. No original ashtray or thumbrest.
They want $3999. |
