| Frank, I have never had a 70's MIJ RI, but I recall seeing at least a few varieties of them offered over the years ... some with nat finish bodies, and more current with 3TSB .. I have no way of knowing, but I would imagine that there would be differences in those from different times ...
... the MIM 70's Jazz is not a true reissue ... it is part of what is called the Classic Series ... it has been offered since '08, and the entire time, produced in Mexico ...from what I have seen/owned/played, the necks seem very consistent over that time span ... they are a very FULL Jazz neck, probably the fullest J neck I have played ... the quality was good, the blocks/binding with the bullet truss rod adj. made for a beautiful looking neck ... I would have liked to have had a little darker tint to the headstock, but what the heck ... the 7.25" fretboard radius almost felt a little flatter to me than the other 7.25" I have had, perhaps the binding had an affect on that ... my neck was very nice, once I got used to it ... I have heard of a few that had issues, although I do not recall what the issue was ... the vintage fret wires were nicely tucked into the binding, and were absolutely smooth along the edges ... the Fender 'stamped' tuners worked well, no issues there ... all in all, if you like a little more 'meat' to your Jazz necks, it was a beauty .. if you are after more of a traditional Jazz neck, or after the J's because of the thin profile compared to a P .. it may not be your cup of tea ...
...hopefully somebody can chime in on some of the MIJ 70's J necks offered over the years to balance it out for you ..I know of only one recent import that made it to the TB board, that belongs to 'ShowLow' on here .. perhaps you can hunt him down and get a review, I think he still has it ... keep in mind, that was one of only a couple exported to the US at the time, his 3TSB and a black one, so it may be hard to find an exact match ... good luck!! |
