'73 Fender Precision Bass Info
I'm helping my wife's family sell a 1973 P bass. All of the serial numbers point to it being manufactured in '73/'74. Here is the information I have:
Pick Ups: 18 4372 (both stamped with same number)
Neck: 5 Sep 72A
Tone: 220135-13 250K 1377404
Volume: 13776033 015473 1Meg Aud
I don't want to misrepresent anything. The volume pot appears to be shinier (possibly newer?) than the tone pot. I'm not sure how to read a manufacture date for the pots, and can't even tell if they are a mixed paired. Also, is there any significance t the pick up numbers?
Anything you can tell me about the numbers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
The volume pot was definitely a replacement. The value should be the same as the tone pot, 250K not 1Meg.
It has an A neck which is a Jazz width, which makes it a bit more rare (it was probably a custom order)
Well if the tone pot is dated 4th week of 1974, then the bass can't be any older than that. Of course the volume pot is a replacement and incorrect, it should have gotten another 250k pot. So I'd call it a 74.
What color pickguard and where is the thumb rest? I'm guessing its a black guard/thumb rest on the upper side of the strings.
Eww...audio taper 1M pot. :S I'd swap that back to a linear taper 250K
