'75 P Bass - Need opinions
Fellow low enders,
I'm considering purchasing a '75 P Bass. I haven't tried it out yet, but will in the next day or so.
what are your thoughts?
There is some rust on the pickups and bridge, but assuming that's overcomable, what else should I look at?
Does this price sound right? I was thinking no more than $1000.
thanks in advance - FS
price is pretty good if it plays well. just keep in mind it's mocha. for some reason it's not a very sought after colour
Price is about right. Don't sweat the rust. It adds to the mojo.
One thing to beware of is the weight. 70's Fenders are often heavy.
I am 99% sure that body is Alder not Ash. It should be on the light side and resonant. Price is ok, me being me I'd try and get it for less. Looks a lot like the body on my '75 Fretless.
Play it first if you can!
Dam OP is giving me serious GAS. Glad it's not in my neck of the woods. And I'm a Gibson kinda guy.
That's not an unfair price as it sits, nothing wrong with a little haggling though! Things to consider are the fact that the bass appears to be very original and unmolested, original case, desirable(semi-rare) color.
If I was in the market and the bass felt good and played well I would make a move for sure.
These are hit or miss.
Some are very good to great, a lot are not good.
1975-1981 were Fender's dark years.
Yes there are some great examples of these years.
But on a whole, the QC went down hill here the closer you get to 1980.
There is a reason Fender put out it's reissue series in 1982.
Sales were down, and QC was not up to snuff. Compared to
anything before 1973.
I've still got a 76-P that I bought new. I don't know about good fenders vs. bad fenders from that era, as I've only played mine. I like to think it's a good one. ;) Personally, I think that mine is worth well over $1000. Another way to say that is that I'd gladly pay $1000 if I could find another mid-70s P that's anywhere near as nice as mine. I actually think they're worth more.
If that bass is as nice as it looks, then I'd have no reservations about buying it. If I could find another mid-70s P that's anywhere near as nice as mine at that price, then I'd be all over it.
I guess you can think of me as your "enabler." :D
Yeah, that's definitely a fair price if you like the bass.
my guess (but you never know) is that the guy will only move $50.00 on that bass.
if it's original pup and plays well, it's worth $1200.00 easy.
