76' Gibson Ripper on eBay, the true closet classic.

Wow! I just came across this gorgeous 76' Gibson Ripper on eBay (I'm in no way connected to the seller of this item). It has been unsold for the last 37 years, all original, mint condition. Price is high, but you never know. This could really go up in value if it's kept in that condition. Wish I had the dough.

The price is very high. Mine was nearly as nice, and I sold it a couple of years ago with the OHSC for about half of that and felt lucky. I was the second owner and had owned it since the 70's.

I miss mine. Was my first "real" bass I had in Junior high. Before that I played Sears p/j precision, and something called an "Encore" which was a short scale.

Played great and had a lot of tone options, but I always thought the body shape looked like the Great Gazoo from the Flintstones. Of course, this was back in the day when Jackson and anything with a hockey-stick neck was what everybody wanted.

Still have the case with the plush purple interior, along with a few components, like the bridge cover that I used as a pick-up cover on a beat up Squire I've used as an experiment project for the past few years. Always wondered what it would be to play with covers...

If I was rich I'd buy it despite the higher cost just because it is SO frickin' MINT!!! I did download and save the photos for my guitar/bass library.

yeah, that's a really mint example of a ripper. i acquired a almost mint grabber a while back, it's the cleanest grabber I sighted over the last years, i started a thread about it here: gibson grabber 1979 "closet classic" - got it!

What do you think is this grabber worth at the moment? I saw Grabbers go in good condition (but no way mint as mine) for more than 1400USD.

I think it's against the forum rules to ask for the value of a bass if you're not a supporting member. But I think that you're looking at Grabber that are asking for 1400$ and not SELLING for that price. Look at completed listings on eBay, that will give you a much better idea of what the Grabber market is right now.
