Sent the seller this:

Hi,

About this bass. I can tell you for sure that the neck is not original. Maybe some of the rest of the bass is original, but not the neck. Fender did not start using truss rods that were adjustable from the headstock until sometime in the mid-late 80's.

Also the tuners are wrong. If you go look at any Fender P from the 70's, they used larger tuners made by Schaller that said "Fender" on them. Those look like Made in Mexico tuners that came on 90's - current Fenders. The neck plate is also not a 70's Fender neck plate. The real ones had a large "F" on them and some even have the serial number stamped into them (my 75 did). Sometime in 76 they started putting the serial number on the FRONT of the headstock and it looked nothing like the one on the back of your headstock. So I'm wondering if anything on this bass is from a real 76. You would have to look at the neck pocket and electronics (from underneath) to determine that

You will have an angry buyer if you sell

Actually, my '77 J bass had a headstock adjustable truss rod...

No matter - this is clealy not a "Gem" like a '76 - the little sticker on the back of the headstock...

But rest assured, someone will decide that they must have this fine piece of "CBS era" history...

I have never seen Fender use a serial number like that.

Really??? I've owned many 70's Fender P's and they all had the truss adjust at the heel. Oh well, maybe they exist?

A bullet trussrod at the headstock I would expect. This looks more like the modern recessed adjustment hole.

EDIT: Per Low Class, not bullet on the P.

No way that's a '76. Not even sure it's a Fender.

Here's a '77

Jazz basses started in late '75 with truss rod adjustment at the headstock, but the Precision remained at the butt.

might have just been on the J bass. My J also had that infamous "Three Bolt Neck" that the P never got.

The 3 bolt plate came the same time as the truss rod change.

I have also sent a message to the seller indicating the incorrect features of the instrument.

A 76 should have holes for the bridge cover too. It really looks like a MIM model.

as others have stated, it's definitely not a '76. it also has a high mass bridge on it. it appears to be an MIM neck to me, with a bogus serial number added. those tuning heads came on MIM p basses with the black teflon sleeve for the truss rod adjuster at the headstock.

Looks like a tarted up MIM.
