8-string warwicks

I've sent an inquirie to Warwick about this subject, but while I wait for a response, which I'll post here later, maybe you have some knowledge to share.

Stuart Zender uses one in the video for The return of the space cowboy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddnt_upvkFI

And T.M.Stevens even has a doubled neck: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtnKx7zAz7o

On the inquirie I asked if those were one-off made for them, since they're both sponsored by warwick and have signature models.
It'd be awesome of warwick to make those available, even if only for the custom shop. What do ya say?

It's a CS option, go to www.warwick.de and go to the pricelist for the CS, you can see 8 strings as an option, a pricey one tho.

I played one a while back - it was used at a local Guitar Center, iirc. I had a big 8 string phase and played everyone I could get my hands on. It was nice, but pretty pricey for used, expensive enough to scare me off. I don't remember the specific model, was kinda like a Spector body, so prolly a Streamer, definitely not a Dolphin or a Thumb. The neck was a little chunky for my tastes, especially for an 8. The tone was very Warwick, thick and burpy, which wasn't great imo for the octave strings. They didn't sing / chime as much as I would have liked, if that makes sense. I only played it clean so it might have been a beast distorted, I'll never know.

I have played Hamer 8s, a Zon 8, a Warwick 8, a Warmoth 8, a Kramer 8 and prolly a couple others I am forgetting. I owned a Hamer 8 until about 5 years ago and it was the niceest one I ever played, so nice that I passed on every used 8 I came across. I have gotten past that period of my playing, but if I ever got back into it I'd order another Hamer.

Peace!

thanks, man. I hadn't check the pricelist before, so since it wasn't really on the site I assumed they didn't make those.

8-string is +1500$
10-string is +1700$
12-string is +2600$ and can be either a doubled 6 or triple 4.

double necks: "Price calculation includes 2 x the instrument model plus the following upcharge" of 550$

man, a double neck would almost end up costing as much as a car. Let's say you're basing on a 2500$ bass. It's 2500+3500+550, right? 6550$ for a double neck bass. I guess I won't be having one of those, unless a miracle happens and I become sponsored by Warwick

make it a double neck 8-string+ 12-string(tripled 4) and we're possibly on to one of the most expensive basses you can buy new.

If you tinker around the alembic custom shop website program thing you can make like $35,000 basses, pretty fun

Just curious about which type of 8-String being discussed here. Is it a 4-String EADG bass with octave strings or 8 individual strings (i.e. BEADGCFA# or F#BEADGCF)?
