8 stringers...any players here?

I'm speaking specifically about 4 string "octave" basses. Any players here? How do they sound in band settings?

Bunch of em here. They sound anywhere from great to terrible to inaudible, like any other bass in a band setting. They have more of a sonic footprint than a 4 string, so more care than usual may need to be taken when mixing and adjusting individual EQs. Among those that like them, the most popular use is probably in 3 piece bands, essentially adding a rhythm guitar player "for free" as it were to fill in otherwise empty space, especially helpful during guitar solos. Some people like to biamp, running the highs into a guitar rig for even more of that "invisible rhythm guitar player" sensation.
