usually on the continental US, ground shipping is used and I seen it go for as little as 15-25 bucks.

Usually with UPS/Fedex they won't honor an insurance claim unless they did (or at least approved) the packaging, and the charge and arm and a leg to pack the instrument for you. If it's being shipped in a hard case then that adds weight and could also bring up the cost. I've shipped in hard cases with a box for $30-50, but when I've had to ship with a gig bag only and had UPS pack it's been upwards of $70 and $80 dollars all together. |

So I guess 80 something isn't outrageous the bass is still 125 cheaper than I can get it anywhere else even shipped, I think I'm talking myself out of it though, I usually build all my own instruments and ts getting close to the cost of building my own. |

Even a good used one, depending: if I lived in England, you bet I'd be buying everything on the American eBay site and paying half as much. As it is, there's no used market around here so if I can get something in good shape that isn't available used or new here (which is a LOT of instruments and effects), the extra cost is worth it. |

| | | | The dimensions of the package factor into the cost....taking off the neck and shipping in a shorter box is the way to go... |

| | Must. Stop. Buying. Basses. Errrrkkkk!!!! | | Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Roseville, CA | | | Sounds like the seller is planning to take it to a UPS Store or Fedex and pay them to package it up for him - and pass that cost along to you.
I have shipped numerous basses all over the country in the last year and half and they're normally around $35, in a hardshell case inside a cardboard box - even going from FL to CA.
You could always tell the seller they need to package it up themselves and get the shipping cost down to under $40 or you're not going to buy it.

| That's just not reality. I've shipped at least 4 basses in the last 8 months. Even with my own packaging I've never paid less than $50. Insurance is what can really increase the cost. I've paid over $27 in insurance alone for basses worth $1500+.
