'80's Fender 32" Scale P Bass Value?

Stupid Question #37.1

Recently I saw on one of the auction sites a late '80's Fender MIJ 32" Scale P Bass. I've always wanted to try one of these but the seller was asking $1900!!! This seemed a bit absurd to me but left me wondering what a really good one of these is actually worth.

I've never been a Fender guy, as you can see from my profile, but I really would love to hear some opinions of what a perfect one of these is worth from the Fender bass community. Thanks, Ken

BTW, I'm looking for info on the Fender badged basses, not the Squire.

OK, I'll try. I didn't yesterday because I figured someone knowledgable may answer, but no.

I'm gonna say between $500-800, maybe more, depending on condition. You probably could've gotten more for it 3 years ago but the economy is what it is.

The best way to find the value (on TB) would be to post your question in the Medium Scale Bass Club thread here. User Ebonally (?) knows his medium scale MIJ Fenders.

I would've bought it from you a year ago, but I'm poor now.

Fender Japan has a 32" jazz, you could route and put a P in that, with a new pickguard for less

I'll have to check that out. I was looking into a medium scale Aerodyne a year ago and the going rate at that time was around $1100 US.

Anyway, I think I remember a medium scale MIJ Squier (maybe?) here in the classifieds for $600.

Here is a fairly nice one from the "basses for sale thread". Looks like the seller had some trouble getting rid of it for $720. You can search through there for price comparisons.
RARE 80's FENDER MID 32" SCALE P-BASS F/S!!!

PS I'd probably be skeptical of a "perfect" 35 yo bass. Would recommend having it inspected by a pro first before spending large sums of money.

Well, I'm happy to say that I did buy the one I was looking at and it is in fact in 100% perfect & original condition. Whomever bought this new never played it and must have just hidden it under a bed.

Thanks for your input on values, that's what I expected it to be worth. Ken
