Check it out if you can, as it's near you. Generally those Aria's of that period were very, very high quality instruments, waaaaaaaay better than a lot of the junk Fender was peddling at the time. I'm speaking as a Fender fan here, by the way.

$150 is an absolute steal for that bass if it's in good condition. It should beat the **** out of pretty much any Squier. Again, I should point out that I'm not a Squier basher - I started a thread here a few weeks ago about a really nice one I played recently.

You could play the Aria for years and years without needing to upgrade (until the GAS gets you). If there's no major problems with it and you like it, then buy it. Today! And post a review when you get it.

My friend had one of those (different headstock though) for years. Great sounding and playing bass.

Those unique Matsumoku pickups are very good as is the entire bass.

if the bass is in good shape, $150 is an absolute STEAL - my opinion (without seeing the actual bass in question, mind you) is BUYBUYBUY!

Listen to the advice, buy it and keep it. This is a very well made bass, and it is the kind of bass you will probably kick yourself for letting go of, so just keep it!

That's a great deal. I have a much cheaper model I purchased a few years back for $300. It remains one of my go to bass for recording.

I have an 80's Yamaha BB1200 neck-through that is better quality than most other basses I've owned since.

Jump in it!

I don't know all of the details on the company, but there was a ton of musical stuff labeled Aria in the 80s. Some of better quality, and some not so much. The first bass I ever owned was an Aria tele-style bass. It would fall in the "not so much" category.

However, the Pro II line was VERY high quality, especially for its price point. The bass posted in this thread probably retailed for somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 that of a neck-through Yamaha was every bit as high of quality.

$150 is a great deal. I don't even play four strings, but I wouls snatch it up for that in a heart beat.

The previous bass player in my buddy's band played a 2 pickup version. I played it once or twice in between sets- what a great neck!

GREAT BASS!!!

My daughter is bassist in her college jazz band and they gave her a bass to use almost identical to that one. When she emailed me pictures I told her to tell the band director if they EVER want to sell it to call me. I've a couple of neck-thru Japanese basses from that period and probably the same factory.
For $150!!!???!!!! Your deal.

Here's the one she was given to use in college.
The strings do need to be put on correctly though.
I've not tried it out yet as her 1st performance was on the same night as my band's gig :-( .
