The '82 Walnut Fender P Specials

Sign in to disble this ad
Sorry, if this has been asked recently at all... So many threads go through the 'Basses' section that it's hard to keep up!

Anyway, I'm looking to see how many other TB'ers out there have an '82 Fender P Special? Specifically looking for the ones with the black American walnut bodies and necks. I think there was somewhere between 150 - 300 made?

This is my one:

I love it! Just wondering who else has had the pleasure (or not?) of owning one?

That's simply beautiful. I love how the black pickguard and gold hardware look against the walnut. If you don't mind me asking, how much does one of those cost nowadays?

Not sure to be honest. I got this a couple of years ago and paid about 2K for it. I'm not sure if that was a great deal or not due to the limited info available on them. I just had to have it though and think it was worth every penny. It is in great condition and has the tweed case etc..

p special

i so wish i had a walnut one. i have three of the ash CAR ones. One intact - no pics yet!!! one with an added j pup and one the previous owner stripped the paint and put in barts. i have gotten a circuit so i will be redoing it one of these days. the ash bass is really heavy but sounds great. Fender had the right idea and IMHO i think it sounds better than the MM stingrays from that timeframe.

It is basically the reverse of the standard P. It has a maple 'skunk stripe' down the back of the neck. Not many people seem to know much about them... Usually when you mention a walnut P, people assume walnut stained.

I'm sure a few people here have or have had them though. I bought this from a nice TBer who had three or so. He also had the matching guitars to go with them!

That's different. I haven't seen those ones before I really like the Specials when you flick them over to active. Really pushes the P sound.

They just came out when I got interested in musical instruments. I remember wanting a Walnut Strat. A local shop had a walnut Gibson Explorer E2 and Flying V2 as well as the Walnut Strat and Walnut P-Bass. As much as I like the Elite P-Bass, lookswise the Walnut P with black pickguard looks much better.
