I put a small deposit on a 1984 Squier P - Japanese, sunburst with an absolutely primo finish with ROTO 66s and a three layer PG, SN on neckplate.
The truss adjuster is in the heel and the hole where the other end of it would normally be is plugged with a contrasting darker wood - looks very factory to me.
It also comes with a Roland Cube 60 in orange Tolex - also mint condition.
All together WITH the bass tags and case candy, original sales receipt AND a Fender hardcase for $200.00 total price.
Sound fair? I don't know the CIJ or MIJ Squiers at all so I wonder if this is worthwhile. |

Let alone the Cube that is a great little amp for clubs or practice, the 84 P will be maybe one of the best basses you've ever had!!! That was a golden period for Squier. Not that now it is bad or something, but just in that early 80 period a Squier was more or less perfectly compatible with a real Fender as for quality etc... anyone has better info?

It looks awfully clean and new. He said he quite playing it in about 1985 or so after the garage band he was in broke up.

I sold a beat to crap one for 350$ locally, no case or amp with it.
I sold another one that was seriously beat up , like chunks of paint and wood missing , routed for EMG's and a unoriginal guard for 300$. |

| | Tuxedo BassŪ - That's Me! | | Join Date: Feb 2010 Location: Hamilton, Montana | | Sunday morning @ 4:55 I had the guy delivering the Squier and the Roland at my door and another guy and his teenaged kid was with him. I figure that they are just helping deliver the goods to me and maybe making the rounds trucking the rest of the stuff that he had to sell yesterday.
No biggie I guess.
I paid the second $100.00 after the deposit to the seller and then the kid's father speaks up: "Can I buy it from you? I'll pay you $400 for the guitar and another $150 for the amplifier if you throw in the Fender case". The original seller is standing there looking at his shoe shine and never says a word.
But I quickly get to thinking that the seller - a local satellite DSL provider whom I have subscribed to for a couple of years now - has been very honest with me up to this point and I see no way to think otherwise with what's going on here.
I mean - he has a father and son team in tow to my house early Sunday morning while he's delivering the bass and amp and he has the honesty to complete the originally promised transaction, yet then lets these two make a much sweeter offer to me.
He couldda just given me my money back, told me a wild tale about zombies eating the bass and that would have been that. But NO!
He brings me a very sweet opportunity to more than double my money and he sets the whole thing up.
I let the father-son tag team have the gear and then I split the extra profit with Stan.
And I never got to even HEAR how it sounded! |

shackled : You should have kept it.
| Looking back at this morning - maybe I would feel that way if I didn't have such a phobia about owning a used guitar.
I can buy parts and pieces, but a whole used bass just kinda freaks me a little. Quote: |

Like I said: I still feel good about the whole deal. Everybody got fat and I shared what I didn't have to share with the seller. |

You, as they say, did the right thing, were the bigger man, and have no worries for not keeping what was really barely yours.
That said, as the owner of a MIJ Squier Jazz with a SQ serial, I do agree that you probably would have really enjoyed this bass. A lot.
I'll keep mine until I will it to my kid. (And I also got an incredibly amazing deal on mine...)
Keep on keeping on...
wraub
p.s. Don't fear the used gear-that's where the deals are.
Besides my Avatar cab and Tascam 8-track recorder, all of my many and varied pieces of gear were acquired used.
