I got my hands on this beautiful instrument several years ago. It came to me with Bartolini's; it was suggested to me to go back to hi-gains, which I did. I know this topic has come up before...the weak E string. I have kept flatwounds on the bass and it is slammin' hot on the A, D, + G strings. The Hi-gains do not have adjustable pole pieces. I've raised the E-string side and lowered the G-string side to no avail. I'd love some feedback on what to do, inclusive of replacing the pick-ups for better balance.

maybe think about buying a current production hi-gain pickup; they now have adjustable pole pieces, so you can tailor the sound to any quirks the bass might have.
