'92 Jazz Bass Plus: active or passive?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey folks. I've been playing my TRB exclusively for the last several months, but I'd like to start using my Jazz again so it doesn't get too lonely.

I'm curious for others who play this bass, do you prefer the tone you get from active w/ mid boost, active, or passive mode?

I play mine active and use the mid boost live to cut through. Just an FYI - the midboost is adjustable - there's a dial in the back by the battery.

Mine is semi retired but I always used/use it in passive mode. For me, that bass just sounds the best that way.

BTW: mine is a 1991 model, 5 string, Pao Ferro fingerboard in a "Black Sunburst" finish.

When I had my two I always used the mid boost setting, tone controls flat.

I had a ’92 5 string. I loved the feel and the sound of that bass other than the week B string which was eventually a deal breaker for me. I usually played it active w/mid boost.

I had a '92 4 string...... I don't mean to be a party-pooper, but I hated that bass. No matter how I knob twisted, it was always so harsh sounding.... even passive (although, passive is when it sounded best to me). Long story, but I ended up exchanging it for a '92 AmStd 4 string Jazz, which I still play today.
