'93-'94 J Bass Authenticity

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anyone know if Fender made any J Basses in the early 90's without pickguards, and with a control panel in the rear as opposed to right under the knobs? A guy sent me some pictures of a 1993-1994 "American J Bass" that he says he bought brand new in 1994. He wants to trade it for a bass that I have, but I'm not completely comfortable with it's authenticity. I've searched online, and haven't found anything that matches his picture. Im at work right now and am unable to post pics, but I will in about an hour when I go home for lunch. Any help will be appreciated. I don't want to let a good trade go to waste. Thanks!

Yes there were some J models during that time frame that were sans pickguard.

Thanks for the reply. I discovered that it is a Fender Jazz Plus.

Yup. Some of those had pretty cool preamps in them after Fender assimilated Kubicki.

Post some pix!

Was it the "Power Jazz"? I think that was an early - mid nineties offering. No pickguard, Kubicki preamp, rear routed and had a slightly smaller headstock.
