95 MIM Fender Jazz information request

Sign in to disble this ad
A few questions:
1) Is it true that they are made of MIA parts assembled in Mexico?
2) Are they worth 1/2 of a same year MIA Jazz?
3) Anything to specifically look for when buying one 2nd hand?

Thanks

Edit: The bass in question: http://www.sahibinden.com/ilan/alisv...zz-bass/detay?

Less than half, maybe 1/3

A newer model, like 2002 on up.

Not even close. I frequently see them for about $200 or even less.

Just make sure it feels good to you.

Don't let those guys fool ya

The necks are ALL made in Corona, California, USA. They are to go on the MIAs, but they are culled for a blemish or a wood grain that isn't up to MIA standards (gnat-straining and not functional but purely aesthetic) and they wind up on the MIM bodies.

The electronics are made in the USA.

Let's post the whole Specs from Fender itself:::

Now, you KNOW they won't say anything about the necks and where they come from, but my neighbor's son works at Fender in Corona and he helps load the necks and other gear when they get sent to Fender in Mexico as they unload gear from Mexico. The delivery vehicles run loaded both ways.

The necks maybe made in the usa plant, but my experience is, especially with the newer generations MIA, that the necks are way better on the MIA's. The wood is more consistant and the feel is way better. It's the overal quality of the wood they look at when selecting pieces for different lines (mim, mia) IMO, not only grain (which is not that relevant to me). All the MIM's I played coulnd't get close to the 2008 american standard jazz I have, in any aspect.

That being said, if you look around for a good second hand MIM, you can get a very decent jazz for little money that will probably be better in the sound departement then some MIAs (especially betwoon 2000 and 2006 IMO), but the feel to me is les high quality with the MIM's.

Just my opinion.

The electronics on MIM Standard Jazzes are passive and they are made in Mexico. They may send some necks to Mexico but they also make necks in Mexico.

Perhaps, but the parts are for the most part substantially lower quality than the USA bass parts.

I don't know what the value is of them, but they're probably worth a lot less than 1/2.

Nothing different than buying any other bass used.

My MIM 95 Jazz was a very good bass for the money. Recommended if you're on a budget!
