'96-'99 Spector BOB4 & BOB5 basses...

Sign in to disble this ad
Are there any other Spector B.O.B. owners out there? I've had a BOB 4 for years now, and it is my main 4 string. I haven't been able to find a more versatile bass. There isn't a tone I can't get with this bass! Every string has that amazing Spector sustain and punch. I'm really looking to see if anybody has a BOB5 as I am curious if the low B has that same punch? Do we have any Spector BOB owners out there?

Thanks!

According the Spector site, the standard models only had a single pickup and the DLX models had 2 EMG DCs and a quilted top. I've never seen a single pickup version. I'm assuming mine is standard.

And here's a link to more:

There was a point when I wanted to install a Kahler trem and Sperzel locking tuners on it. Then I found out that there were only 150 of these made, and I didn't have the heart to butcher one of them!

I had contacted PJ Rubal over a year ago asking if they would ever produce the BOB again. He told me that they were going to release a J type bass called the Coda at the NAMM show and made me promise not to tell! However, he told me it would be a more traditional J w/ single coils, a typical 4-bolt neck, and typical headstock. Needless to say, the Coda is nothing like the BOB.

I tried to tell them that the BOB was the right bass at the wrong time, and if they released it now, it may take off. There's so many boutique J clones out there, but the BOB has enough unique-ness to stand out. And more importantly, although it doesn't have the NS curved body shape or headstock, the BOB is still undeniably 'Spector' in punchy tone and feel. I haven't played the new Coda, but IMO, the only thing 'Spector' about it is the text on the headstock (and build quality of course)! Long live the BOB!

Agreed! I remember when these were first advertised back in the mid- to late-90's, I wasn't knocked out by them. I remember seeing a picture of one and something didn't appeal to me visually. Now when I see one, I think, damn I would jump on that. Still love their flagship line of basses but this would definitely bridge the gap between the NS body styling and the newer Coda series. They probably could try a limited re-issue of the BOB to test the market.
