_compose this list_ Reasons NOT TO buy a guitar or bass based on color

Sign in to disble this ad
My friend is looking into buying a second guitar, he is pretty good and he has a MIM strat with HSS pickups its nice bubt he only bought it based on the fact that the color was nice (graffiti yellow)

he is looking to sink like 1000$ into a new guitar and he is leaning towards a les paul and he named a few other fenders (non strats) but he is basing the priorites all on Color and I told him how bad of an idea buying based on color is

Can you guys help me compose a list of reasons why its a bad idea?

Well, that's why you buy a name brand, right? Because it's already perfect and the only difference is color?

...right...?

It's his money. Go for it.
Regardless of how lame-brained the idea might seem on the surface.

My ugliest bass has been my best sounding.

Oh, wait: he's a guitar player. Go with the color

If he's really good as you say, it really doesn't matter what he buys. I'm sure he'll make it sound good. Why not choose the guitar for it's color. I buy my basses based on it's looks. I need the whole package

People buy things because of color all the time. It's no better or worse of a reason than anything else. Why do you think it is a bad idea?

In 10 years you won't care what she looks like as long as she still puts up with your crap without being too much of a bitch about it. ...and can cook.

Fact is, If she is still like that, you will probably be glad if she is a little unattractive and not getting too much temptation from the younger guys still in their prime.

Fortunately, instruments are not like that. Pick whatever looks hot to you and feels good to your fingers.

ALWAYS like the color of your bass. It's like a tattoo. It better look nice, because you're stuck with it for a while.

Of course, shopping primarily on it is flat out dumb.

Having an instrument that you find "sexy" will inspire you to pick it up and play more often.....but, it's the ones with the great personality that you end up keeping for years.

If he wants to buy it for the color, then let him be. If you're not up for it, then convince him to buy a great guitar and pay $200-300 to have it refinished in a color that suits him. I did that for my bass.
