It probably isn't but it sort of looks like Carvin Horns.

Anyway, I saw Abe at a local jazz club here, he was awesome. Jumping up and Down like a boy, banging on the bass with his whole hand!

Here's another pic of the bass, though I think it might not be too helpful:

Not sure which brand, but it looks like a 35" at least with a really wide nut, even for a 6 string.

It's an Ares. Same bass @ 1:42 here: YouTube - Abraham Laboriel, JR Robinson, Marty Walsh, Steve Sykes, and Steve Kercher recording in L.A.

There's a link to this video on the Ares web page.

I remember reading a BP interview with Abe Laboriel around 1996 - shortly after Guidum was released. He talked about his Ares 6-string bass being used on the album. It was many YEARS before I got to see an Ares... At least a decade, or more.

I know it's made in Europe; can't remember the website! I thought at first Leduc, but I can't find a matching model.

This thread is a couple months old, but I'm the other guy in the second picture with Abe, and thought I'd confirm that it is indeed an Ares bass. If I recall correctly, it was custom-made for his hands in order to reduce risk of carpal tunnel injury.

He let me play the bass... though... when I played it, it sounded like me, not like Abe!

Shameless plug: these photos are from a session from the album Believing Side of Life.

Awesome! How'd you get that band? Definitely remnants of Koinonia in your music. Hard to miss Abe, Justo, and Bill Maxwell in that sound.

Very cool!

Man! I'm really jealous to you! Before this I thought that Abe's sound is really in his bass but yea, I think it's time to admit that he's really THAT talented!
