About to go burn GC

Sign in to disble this ad
So about 2 months ago, I went into my local GC and they had a nice SB-14 on the discount rack for $450. I bought it, but brought it back the next day after deciding I needed a cabinet more. Well...I want into the same GC last night on my way to a gig, and saw the same bass for under well less than $350, I'm gonna go pick it up lol.

Am I evil?

Sure- we all are. But if/when some wacko DOES burninate GC, YOU are on record as having said you're *about to..*
Silly & far-fetched, yes- still, weirder things will happen...

BTW, I'd roast marshmallows over a smoldering GC.

Edit: OH. THAAAT kind of *burn*... high hopes on my part, I guess- nevermind.

What's wrong with that?
You don't control their pricing, you're just taking advantage of it.
If anything, you're being a wise shopper.
They're still making money on the deal.

Well think of all those that have gotten pillaged on a trade in at GC. Next time when you are about to score a good deal at GC whisper to yourself " this is for all those that have been pillaged by GC" and then go to town!!!

Dude I'd take advantage of GC as much as possible. They are corporate, thus- sometimes you get the worst instrument in the world, or a pack of strings that's been open, an amp that's been abused by a store employee, and sometimes the store is completely full of lazy ppl. They have the money to mark it down obviously So why not? Any decent business owner knows to only afford to take a hit as hard as you can.

Keep in mind it's got 2 additional months of shop wear and damage. Probably a reason for the price drop.

Nope. Sounds like a win for you unless as mmbongo said there is some wear and/or damage that is reflected in the price.

Nah, sounds more like they're just trying to move it. There may be some wear and tear from being test driven but, more than likely, not $100 worth. It probably just needs a set up, new strings, and a wipe down.

It's actually in better shape than when I originally bought it. They fixed the loose treble pot, and it doesn't show any play wear. The only thing is they won't let me put it on layaway for less than half down and balance in 2 weeks.

Actually, I'm gonna pass. I wanted to spread out the payments over 30 days, and they want too much down. I'm gonna take home a few used boss pedals instead. Anyone interested in a SWEET CHEAP Sterling can find it at the Hobart Indiana GC.

In business those are called opportunities. They don't always come along frequently so take advantage while you can. If you don't, someone else will. GC doesn’t make random moves. The manager probably wants to see it off their wall.

He doesn't want it gone bad enough apparently, with all those stipulations he put on the deal. I'll go back in a month, and if it's still there, I'll make them the same offer I did today.

I've NEVER had a problem putting clearance/used stuff on layaway at GC before. In fact, I picked up my used ATK from layaway end of June. I call shenanigans, and I'll probably make a call to GC corporate on Monday. Just to be a pain.

Btw, the same GC has an Eden 1200watt head for 650, and an SVT 4 Pro for 700. A few good opportunities in there.
