Accidentally bought a Spector

OK ok, I DO know better, but I was messing around on the "bay," and accidentally won a Korean made 2001 Spector Performer Series. What now?
I know the pickups are too too bad but the passive tone controls have to go.
Is this thing worth keeping or is it firewood?

I had a Legend Custom that I really liked... I never played a Performer series though... Play it, and if you like it keep it. If you don't like sell it. But making a case against it wont help you sell it

haha, fair point. I won't have it for a week or so, and yes; I will play it. I just feel like a dunce that I didn't intend to win it. More making a case against myself than the bass. Thanks for the input though.

The Performer is the bottom of the barrel Spector. Hard to tell what kind of condition it might be in. Probably be a decent gigging bass though if in decent shape and with an electronics switch-out.

I liked the neck on a Korean Spector I had a few years back. It played well and sounded decent, though mine did have a preamp.

That is good news. I'm worried most about the neck. I can do wonders with electronics but seem to be a bit handicapped with wood. Thanks!

I had an Spector Performer but mine was China made (Koreans should be a step above I guess)
Beside some cosmetic details I liked that bass very much. It was comfortable. The neck was nice and it was lighter than the Precision I also had at the same time.
Stock PUs were ok and although it was not really needed I replaced them with Basslines which gave the bass a more "round" sound.

Why condemn pickups or any other aspect of a bass before you get it? Chill and play with it after it arrives. What someone else might not like could be your ideal sound.

Cause I'm a Huskies fan? Just kidding!

I'm not condemning the pickups at all yet. I certainly know they are a step above the Select series. As to the rest of the bass, well, I ran a store for about 10 years and my experience with bottom end instruments has been just that: bottom end. I have high hopes and want this to be a bass I'm super happy with, but I dream of Foderas. I drive to work in a Civic but would at any given moment send it off a bridge in lieu of a BMW...

My post is, um hey, I'm a dork and out bid the highest bidder by $1, so what the heck did I buy?
Please read less into the bash and more into the "help me appreciate this entry level bass."
Thanks everyone for your responses.

Well, I own several basses and one of my absolute favorites is a Fender Jazz FL I paid $190 for back in '99. It's all about two things:

How does it feel in your hands and how does it sound? Who gives a rats a$$ how much it cost if those two things work for you?

I was messing around with a used one at a local store a while back and it was surprisingly good for being the "entry-level Spector". Solid tone, comfy neck... you may be pleased

How do you accidentally win something on ebay, you either bid with the intention of winning or your trying to drive up the price for some reason?

It might be a great bass.
Sometimes the stars align and you luck out on both wood and electricals, and maybe even get the guy who knows how to put them together just right.
I've had a flagship model that stunk, and some bottom-feeders that were sweet.

Hope it works out for you.
Try not to stress too much--you can always clean it, set it up better, and sell it for zero $ lost, with good karma and a lesson for your troubles.

Hi, duh. I said that already. I bid $1 higher than the highest bidder with 30 seconds to go. YES!!! I was trying to drive up the price. It's a hobby I have. I admit my failure as a human bean. I just want to know if the bass is worthwhile.

Only you can tell that when you get it.
Each person can have a different opinion. Yours is what matters.

You should just message the "2nd place" bidder and ask if he wants to buy it from you in the event that you dont. Though you'll probably lose a few bucks.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes - ha,ha...

Any Performer I've ever played wasn't worthy of the Spector name, IMO - worse than Squier Affinity, actually...
