Acoustic Bass Suggestions

Sign in to disble this ad
How's it going? This is my first post here as I am new to bass after many years of being a guitarist. I have a Fender (Mexi) Jazz bass which I love playing because it is so comfortable... the neck is perfect. I also have an Ibanez EDB600 which I hate playing because it is not comfortable to play. Anyhow, with that information can anyone suggest a relatively inexpensive acoustic bass? I did try the Search function and it timed out... maybe a glitch because I just registered or something similar...? Anyhow, thanks.

Ibanez makes some pretty decent acoustic bass for the price. If you want to spend more money Michael Kelly has some nice choices (i love the dragonfly series).

If you like the neck of a jazz bass, you might want to check out the Fender "Kingman" Acoustic/Electric. I'm pretty sure it has jazz neck. Normally I'd post a link, but Fender's site seems to be down. I've seen these go for around $300 used and $400+ new......

In my experience, fender acoustics (both guitar or bass) dont live up to their electric counterparts. Thats just my opinion though, its probably best to try them out for yourself to form an opinion (unless a ton of people agree with me on this, thatll also give you somewhat of an idea).

I was ready to be that guy to just say "buy an upright!"

I've not come across any acoustics I've been very fond of. Ibanez makes a cool 5 string acoustic though. Watched some kid play it at GC in wonder. I'm curious how loud the B is on it.

There is a fairly inexpensive Ibanez acoustic bass that is a real good deal for the money (around $300.) I love my Washburn AB-10 but they run a bit more money wise, I got lucky on ebay - got it w/ hard case for only $157.00!! The Dean acoustic bass is not worth bothering. On the higher end, Michael Kelly makes a real nice one. Peace

Breedlove with flats. Amazing tone. Love the thump. Just had a custom thumb rest put on it... I can post pics if anyone is interested.

I have plenty of slabs that go 'thump' and didn't want to try to emulate a P with an acoustic bass. That's not what they are for anyway.

They are mellow, tons of sustain and can really honk with the round bronzes on them.

If you get an AEB with a tuner, and if it's an Ibanez, it'll also have a pretty good EQ and 'Presence" adjustment.

One thing my Ibanez AEB10E has is a phase switch - not too sure about it, but I think that might be an exclusive to Ibanez.

Maybe not. I dunnow.

I picked up an Ibanez from Samash a few months ago. Sounds pretty good. Think i paid 350 for it.

Tacoma Thunderchief is my acoustic of choice. Of course if I could ever find/afford and Earthwood... (Neither are "cheap." If I were to sell my Tacoma, I'd be wanting in the $800 neighborhood.)

I had a Washburn AB35 acoustic/electric that I thought was a very good instrument and was under $500. I think I got it used for around $350.

Try the search function again. There's literally pages of threads on ABG's. Key words: ABG, acoustic.
If you're in the US, see if you can get ahold of a Boulder Creek.
I've owned a Takamine G series for 6-7 years with no issues.
Keep in mind, ABG's by nature are limited in their acoustic volume, it's why they come with onboard electronics.
