Acoustic Bass VI-like instrument?

There is something I have been wondering for quite sometime now. Is it possible to convert an acoustic baritone guitar into a six-string bass reminiscent of the Fender Bass VI (basically just sanding down the nut to fit Bass VI strings)?
I don't have the money for this kind of experiment at the moment, but I'm just wondering out of curiosity because it's something that I might wanna try to make a few years down the road. However, I only want to try if there is at least a slight chance I will succeed.

Does anybody think that it can be done? Anybody's input is welcome and appreciated.

I'm sure it can be done. You'd probably want a 27" or 28.6" scale. Depending on scale length and preferences, you'll probably need to order individual acoustic strings and might need a bass tuner or two on the lowest strings depending on the gauges. A .070 is basically the limit of most guitar tuners.

My plan was to use the strings made for the Bass VI, because then I'll know for sure that I will get a bass sound from them.

Electric strings sound fairly un-acoustic and tend to be under tensioned than traditional acoustic strings.

You surely won't.

I don't think the traditional Fender VI Bass strings will work as well as you may have hoped acoustically. The hollow body needs a heavier guage and basically more "oomph" to move the air inside. Electric strings are simply made for the magnets in the pickups.

I know this isn't the acoustic VI you had in mind, but there are both a Warwick and a budget priced Rockbass Alien 6. They're both available in either Fretted or Fretless. I have a RB Alien 6 on order, for delivery in March 2013. Some others have already received their shipments and are enjoying their basses.
