Acoustic basses - whats the point?

So - i have yet to try an acoustic bass that actually has enough volume to follow two acoustic guitars, - sure you can plug the piezo but it still sounds pretty skinny.

So who uses one -and for what? I kinda want one even thou i know im not gonna be able to use in in any functoinal musical form - or am i wrong?

I use mine (a fretless at that) for jamming with acoustic guitars.


I do not use an amp, and have no trouble matching their volume. If there's only one acoustic guitar going, I have to take care not to overpower them.

The oft repeated silliness on here that acoustic basses are too quiet is what has led me to believe that many TBers must play quite timidly, treating their strings with the utmost of gentle caresses.

Hi.

I have one as well.

I practise with it and do an ocassional jams (too few nowadays ). It's a low-mid quality Hohner IIRC, so nothing spectacular, but loud enough to jam.

If I need to "cut through the mix" IOW "drown everyone else and still feel good about it", I take the DB.
