Acoustic string volume...

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought a Michael Kelly Dragonfly 5 (see this thread):

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showth...90#post9619290

anyways, the B and G strings are significantly quieter (when amplified) than the E to D strings.

The rep from hanser music suggested making sure that the piezo pickup actually goes all the way to the g string.

I checked it when chaning strings yesterday and it does.

any other hints? I really would like the volume to be teh same through all 5 strings.

Thanks for your help!

Doug

thanks!

acoustic they all sound pretty similar....teh B is a little quieter (just put it on) but I expected that.

I checked and the Piezo SEEMS to be flat in the channel....the saddle is thinner at the ends (it is curved slightly with the "peak" of the curve in the middle of the saddle)...wonder if this might be a reason (not as much resonance?)

You could try wrapping a bit of tin foil around the pickup at the places your volume is too low. I've heard of this trick, but never tried it. It'll take an hour of time, otherwise its free.

might be worth a try....I can see where that would "extend" the field a little.....I want to break in the Chromes before I take them off though....

thansk for the idea!

peace:
