Funny to see this thread. I received and opened a Gibson Flying V today. For some reason, the case seems to smell a little like vanilla.

am i the only one who misread the title of this thread as "addicted to selling my bass" and thought it was another gear whore thread?

My first proper electric bass was a Hofner Beatle bass my Dad got me when I was 14 in the 70s...... Opening the case was like opening the Ark of the Covenant. It just smelt German Hofner Bass. Nothing else beats it.....better than sex.

We gig in bars with people smoking and rehearse in a place heated with kerosene heaters. The smell of my basses is a odd blend of sweat, cigarette smoke, and kerosene. Come to think of it, that sounds like the title of a country song.

It's the case? My mate's SG always smelled strongly of vanilla. That was an excruciatingly awesome scent.

My ex girlfriend's cat peed in my '80 Ricky 4001 case. Took about 10 years for that to go away.

I love the smell of vintage basses that have been sitting in their cases a long time. It always reminds me of how my grandparents' house used to smell.

Oh god, I know exactly what you mean. My Zebrabird and the case smell so damn good. The cases of my Fender AVRIs also have a very nice aroma (The basses, not so much anymore. It goes away once it gets coated in grime and sweat).

That is a situation where I would genuinely not know what to do with myself...

The neck on my Ibanez SR smells pretty bad, like a pet store or something. I always have to wash my hand after playing it.

+1 on that. When I got my Midnight Blue Ric a few years ago it had the most delicious smell of paint. Unfortunately that was indicative of the blue-bleed problem.

+1 on the Gibson cases, too. I bought a Les Paul in October and the cases is nice enough to eat.
