Advice for a bass for recordings.

Yo Yo Thread Newbie here,

So yes I'm in a METAL band (Crow Black Sky). We are going to start recording our new album. I'm very influenced by Jeroen Paul Thessling (Obscura/Pestilence) and would like to get a sound similar to that of the latest Obscura album. Considering my financial state at the moment I cant quite afford the Warwick Thumb 6 fret-less (although I will get it eventually). I'm currently playing the Warwick Vampyre 5 but really want the tone that fretless offers. Is there a Warwick fretless that has great tone that I'm missing or would the tbr1005f Yamaha be sufficient.(I love that Bass).

Thanks a lot....

That tone is not difficult to achieve, lots of compression, direct.
The fretless part.... well you need to take care of that.

Great tone has to do with taking the time to tinker and tweak, to that end, any decent bass can sound great if you put the work in and have some audio engineering chops.

You could pay to convert the Vampyre into a fretless. I wouldn't do it but, it certaintly is the cheap route.
