Hello all, I just Bought this American 1996 Deluxe Active Fender Jazz Bass on EBay, I do plan on adding some better pics in the near future, this one is from the auction.

Anyways my question was ,not being sure if the Strings are old or not, but after changing the battery for the EQ , the tone still sounds a little dull and not bright enough to me, on the high's and on the D string. I do like to slap and pop, etc, so I'm trying to get a better tone.

In worst case the if the electronics are to out dated for the sound Im looking for, can I interchange them with the new Deluxe Active Jazz Electronics?

I'm not sure when these strings have been changed last, but I plan on starting there, unless anybody has any advice,on things I can try, I would really appreciate it .

Genaro.

If you really want pop, put on some nice stainless steel rounds and go to town.

I run Elixir Nanos (not what you indicate in sound for your purposes though) and I can get away with years of leaving them on the same bass - they last that long.

The very first thing to do is get the strings YOU want on it and then play and decide if any mods are really needed then.

Never even think about changing things just to change them unless you have yards of money or your Thorazine prescription ran out.

Most times getting froggy and changing parts is the last thing you should do.

The EQ on that Deluxe is more than decent - great even.

Congrats on your new jazz deluxe, a great slapper and popper!
I'd start with changing the strings. After about 6 months the strings on my deluxe started to sound a little dull. I put on a new set of steel rounds, and voilą, the good slap sound was back.
If that doesn't do it, play around with the EQ on your amp.
