Advice on my project bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok so I picked this up with the intention of using it as a project bass. I got it last night, spent some time with it this afternoon and it has some surprising tone. I wasnt expecting much but it has a little bite to it.

My goal is to take it apart, sand down the body (this will assist in fixing the damage on the bottom of the bass) and repaint, refinnish, rewire and set it all back up anew.

My problem is where to start. Other than changing strings I have never attempted anything like this and dont want to ruin anything from the get go.

Other than proper scredrivers, what tools might I require, what sandpaper?, what types of paint and clearcoat? You've heard of tecnophobes, I guess I am a DIYaphobe but want to learn.

Any advice would be appreciated. Also what colours would you suggets. My daughter likes it as it is but she also suggested changing the red accents to green. I also thought about reversing the colours red with black accents. Also considered white ?? Suggestions welcome.

thanks

Geez, how many threads does this bass need, anyway?

Take it slow. Other than that use common sense and the sticky threads.
