Just got some Bartolini 9W4J Quad Coil Jazz pickups here on TB, and had my buddy ModulusAcacia put them in my 2000 American Jazz (natural ash/maple). Passive setup. It's like having a new bass. Completely different personality.
Here I did a quick one-time pass (don't judge) over a song my band recorded a while back. Neck pickup is rolled off slightly. I plugged into my Lexicon Alpha which was plugged into my MacBook Pro, and recorded this in GarageBand. No EQ or any futzing with it.
They stopped making it some years ago. I think their hum-cancelling jazz pickups are stacked coils now instead of this quad coil design. I had someone familiar with the design tell me that on my pickup there is one coil for each string, and they said Bartolini probably stopped making them because they are difficult and time consuming to manufacture.
