Am I the Only One Interested in a 32" P?

I've been interested in getting a 32" P bass for a year now but aside from Landing, no one makes them. Is there any reason for this, i.e lack of demand, sound issues etc...? I find it hard to believe with the various options for SS recently in the Squier line there are no 32" P's. The P is arguably the most famous bass ever. Certainly a company could make some sales by having the market cornered.

P.S. I own a 32" J and am aware of the used Squiers out there. I just want a reasonably priced new 32" P.

I was surprised to find that you're right, I can't find any short/medium scale P basses anywhere.

If you change the scale is it still a "Pbass"?

Probably not, especially since P/J basses aren't considered P Basses in some circles.

Depends on what you think makes a P bass a P bass.

Is it the "p pickup?" that makes it a "p bass"? If that's the case, any bass with a "p pickup" could be a "p bass", but I don't generally consider Ibanez GSRs to be P basses and they have p pickups.

I don't think it really matters though, honestly.

Fender Japan is your friend.
You can get new ones but your best bet is find a 80's MIJ Squier, they are out there. I had a Oly white 32" P, it was nice. I love my 32" CIJ Jazz

Isn't 32" getting pretty close to a Mustang at 30" ???

That one is very high. I paid $450 for the one I had. Keep a eye out and you can find them in the US for $450-550

Maruszcyk Instruments make them, and 30" scale too. The Jake model.
They'll make 'em 5 string too, and I've heard they're doing a short scale 6 string Jazz, so they'd probably do a 6er P as well.

I was thinking anything with a p-pickup would satisfy me.

You're not alone. A 32" scale P is on my list.

I keep my eyes peeled for any reasonably priced MIJ Squiers, but those are getting harder to find. I wouldn't mind if Warmoth gave us a scaled-down Precision body to go with their short-scale series necks.

Also, I heard the rumor that Essex (via Kurt at Rondo) might (sometime, maybe, possibly) have a 32" P-style to offer, along with the 32" Jazz that they once sold.

Have you checked out the Warmoth site? They have 30" & 32" necks and 4 different short scale bodies that you can have routed from Warmoth for a P Bass configuration. I have a 32" neck and SS Jazz body on order right now. If you order your own preference for woods it is a bit more expensive and you get what you want. If you order something from the in-stock showcase you don't have to long to get and they are discounted.

Showcase Neck
$188

Showcase Body
$185 routed for a P Bass config.

I am planning on ordering one of these G4 single cuts in Mahogany with a P Bass rout and a 32" Birdseye/Birdseye neck when I complete my 32" Jazz.

Not cheap but not expensive and are very well crafted in the USA

Would love to have 32 or even 30 inch P Bass. Didn't Fender do a P Bass Jr at one point?

Let me re-emphasize my concern. I am well aware of the options available including Warmoth and old Squiers however, I would like a new P-bass and I am wondering if there are any particular reasons they are not being mass produced at this point at a reasonable price. Here is a recent pic of me at occupy Fender:

They offer new 32" P's? I was on Ishibashi and didn't see them.

I haven't played many 30's but I feel comfortable with a 32.

Yes, I wrote to Kurt but he was pretty uncertain.

I wrote to them today asking why they didn't have P's but they didn't really answer. I'll have to ask them directly about the rerouting thing. I honestly just want a reasonably priced, new model. More patience may be my only option.
