I have Nitro Lacquered CS's. I use the same wax I use on my car, P21S. It has no cleaners, etc., so you just smooth it on (lengthwise, not circles) and buff it right off. I only put it on once when it's new. I wipe/buff it with a soft microfiber cloth or flannel (like the Fender cloth) after playing. I've used Martin Guitar Polish also.

Haha, that's the plan...it's just that intial phase after just getting it where you try in vain to keep it shiny for the first month, lol. Here's to dinging the headstock at rehearsal tonight!

Excellent. The Olympic White nitro finish will start to fade to yellow in about a year's time, great looking bass that just improves with age.

Some lucky sucker just scored a Oly white Fullerton AVS precision for 1400 on eBay. It wasn't advertised as a reissue so it went under the radar a bit.

Here's a family portrait of my 1957 US AVS reissue Precision Bass in ocean turquoise (1989) and 1962 US AVS reissue Precision Bass in surf green (1989), currently my favorite bass.

Are the tuners on the avri stiff? There seems to be some friction on mine and they don't turn smoothly.

Sounds like the gears just need a little lube.

I had a 57 and a 62 Ps that I stupidly parted with. Recently purchased a brand new 62 Jazz reissue, which is now my main player. I think I've finally learned my lesson. Going to hold on to this one.

Yeah, sounds like they probably just need a drop of lubricant.

I was interested in seeing some rosewood neck grain. I like the looks of tight neck grain but I ended up with this:

I kinda the more "solid" look of the tighter grain but this is growing on me...has some interesting grain. I oiled the board a little since these crappy pics were taken and it seems to have somewhat brought the grain closer together a little. For some reason, boards like this strike me as dry and I get paranoid about fret sprout. I know, I'm obsessing but I love having excuses to see more bass pron. Anyone care to share some board close ups?

For those of you that have a 57' P, how low can you get the action? I've got a line on one, but the action is a mile off the board. I'm well aware that the factory setup isn't exactly optimal for all, but before I drop that kind of coin I want to make sure that it can be made to go relatively low.

There was an MIA Standard right next to it that had killer action, exactly how I'd like it. I'm considering that one as well but it's not the color scheme I'd prefer right now.

Wow, gorgeous. Is that a stock pickguard or did you have someone else make that?

To get low action on my '57, I also needed to lower the A-side of the pup to prevent the string from hitting the raised poles. Looks odd if you are used the the typical /\ shape that most folks use for the pups to follow the 7.25" radius board but it worked fine for me and I like my neck almost flat (very little relief) with a pretty low action.

I'm assuming this is a brand new AVRI57, so have the shop set it up for you? (which they should have done already)
As long as the fretwork is good, and the neck is normal, you'll be able to dial in great action.

Which color is it?

The polepieces were a concern, they stick out pretty far! I usually go for a pretty low action too, so I just wanted to make sure it was capable of at least a reasonably low action. I know the 7.25 radius isn't helping all that much, but as long as it's not 1/4" off the board I'll be happy.

It's sort of brand new. It's Guitar Center . It's got a ding in it, so they guy was going to discount it. I usually prefer to do my own setups, plus it's the GC in Manhattan, so I'm sure their tech is decent but I'm sure he's backed up for a while too.

It's the 2 tone (?) burst. I might prefer the white, but I've been looking through the pics in this thread and I think I like the burst plenty fine as well. The MIA Standard was a 3 tone burst w/ rosewood board. Although I really that as well, I'd rather have a maple board on my P right now.

Sunburst or trans white, you really can't go wrong.
I built up a trans white / maple 57 replica, which included with
a 7-1/4 radius maple neck.
With good tools (under string radius gauge), I was able to get
a nice low action. That, combined with the TI flats and vintage
frets makes for very smooth, playable bass.

Nice thing too about those larger/thicker necks is they just
don't move around like a thinner J neck can.

Right: a 1959 Custom Telecaster with the old style Fender sunburst. Prior to 1964, Fender stained the yellow of the sunburst into the wood, instead of spraying it. This saved a spray step when shooting a sunburst finish."

So yeah, looks like there was a big difference from the 62 burst to the 64. I would say that both reissues are looking VERY accurate.

Took it from "Vintage Guitar Collectors".

This was the reason i ordered mine in black¡¡ Man the CS 3TSB look at least to me the nicest.. but the 62 i have found.. meahhhhh it doesnt looks nice.. really pale..looks like (sorry to all of you guys having them) a cheap piece of wood..if the 62 had the 3Tsb of the CS 64 i had ordered mine in a heartbeat¡

My recently acquired 2006 AVRI '57 Precision.

The photo of the back is a little blurred.

8 lbs, 7 oz. Now my lightest bass, and 3 lbs lighter than my 1980 Precision!
