I know that the radius is different and that the nut width is the same...but I'm curious if the thickness (front to back, depth) is the same and if the width on both basses' necks increases the same all the way down the neck.
Thanks in advance for the input. |

IMO the AV '62 Jazz neck is one of the most comfortable necks I have ever played(I also really dig the '57 and '62 Precision necks). I am actually not a huge fan of the MIA Standard necks as they are fairly chunky in comparison. |

I still have the same very set of TI Flats (043) that I put since the day I got mine 62' P.

Thanks in advance for the input. | is it the same nut width? it feels wider than the am standard p. it's definitely slimmer back to front than an American standard.

GHS Brite-Flats, Fender Studio Bass (both flats and rounds), D'Addario XL, D'Addario Slo- Wounds, LaBella Old Originals, TI Jazz flats, D'Addario Half-Rounds, DR Hi-Beams & Sunbeams, and some others I only tried one set of.
It's had a set of GHS Precision Flats on it since at least 2005. The perfect flateound string.

Can't comment on the Jazz necks.

The AmStd Precision has a nut width of 1,625". As to Godblender's question about the thickness, the AVRI 62 has a C neck profile, and the AmStd's have a "Modern" C profile. From my experience, this just it's a fuller profile, getting closer to a D shape. AMJBASS put it very well: Quote:

I quite dislike the necks of the AmStd's, the neck just feels too deep and clunky to me. Part of this is the 9,5" radius, I just far prefer the 7,25" found on the AVs, and also due to the beefiness of the neck.

I still have the same very set of TI Flats (043) that I put since the day I got mine 62' P. | I use Rotosound Swing 66s (Nickel) on both my Jazz and my Precision (both 62s). On my precision, I absolutely love them, they make it sound huge and crunchy and deep. With the Jazz, I love them as well, but I'm not set on them yet. It might be because I've only played with them through my small rig (a Sunn 200s into a Ampeg B25 cab with Altec 418s), and it tends to make things sound a little nasally and honky (noted the same thing with my precision). I'll evaluate it better when I play it through my big rig. I also tend to leave my strings on for a long time (partially because I can't afford to constantly be replacing them), and I rather like the sound of semi-dead Rounds. Mellowed, but still with clarity.

the stock setup was actually pretty solid. I did have to give the truss rod a quarter turn, but the neck flattened out nicely, and the stock setup was almost dead on 5/64ths at the 12th fret. Lower than I expected and just right for me with no major fret buzz anywhere on the neck.
I'm not a big flat guy, but I had an old set of chromes that I threw on it and it sounds killer! it's a bright sounding bass when played wide open. gets a great rock tone with a pick or a heavy right hand attack. Love the shallow neck profile and gloss nitro finish.

Go to price match vendors and that can get you under 950.00! Both the Jazz and Precision. Check out Hot Deals section of the board.
Beware though, the Olympic White P is still 1349.00.
Total speculation on my part, but I think that they are blowing these out to make way for the yet to be announced New American Vintage series like Fender did with the guitars. Probably with a hefty price increase.

Probably with a hefty price increase. | They are price matching the price Amazon had since Thursday. Cheap are 62 Jazz sunburst and 62 P sunburst, the 57 Precision sunburst was cheap but sold out. If the white 57 had been on sale I'd be dead by the end of the week if I couldn't intercept the package.
In the guitar world it is confirmed that they refine the AVRI, starting with the Telecaster. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
