When I was first considering buying a bass earlier this year, I had limited knowledge. So, I googled "parts of a bass guitar" to see what I should be looking for in a bass, and I came across this site:

http://www.tunemybass.com/bass_guita...ss_guitar.html

I now have a Yahama RBX (4-stringed) with P&J pickups because of this site.
Hope it helps.

Picky for a reason... It's an OUTput jack because the signal goes OUT of the bass there. Understanding signal flow is how one trouble shoots problems, and sloppy terminology leads confusion.

that's MINE! give it back!

THAT's my new to me Squire,,what P's me off is the `input jack',i have to finger her to find it and plug in(of course it should be output? no wait?,,,) wellanyway she's got a boss neck, loves to Rock, sings the Blues, has tone for days and can get down and dirty any time i ask/need, all she needs is new strings, black pickguard, chickenhead knobs,Seymour Duncan pickups,Badass Bridge, new leather strap and a hard case and she's,uh?,perfect?

oh yeah and a new amp, this combo isn't hitting me where i need it

nice bass dude!

The one that always gets me is when people refer to the front and back pickups...

Sorry but all the pickups are on the front of my bass (it's the side that faces the audience). What's the point of a back pickup? To amplify my stomach rumbling? Call them neck and bridge (and middle if you have three) no confusion that way.
