Well, sort of.

They had the 61276/7 set, which came along during the American series. They are or were used in nearly everything.

Instead of outright taking it back, here's what I'd do: go back, explain the situation, get them to order a new one, and compare them. If you prefer the new one, make an outright trade. If you prefer the one you have, ask for a 10 percent discount.

Thought of something similar... I thought the "deal" was pretty good for a 2012, and not so good for a 4 yr old...

Definitely having a talk with the mgr... He claimed he had one "in the back." Even put that in his notes (under my "account" in the 'puter). But the clerk I met didn't find it, and pulled this one off the rack...

Live and learn! I'm in business for myself, and cannot afford to trust this shop anymore... Maybe he's just trying to make up for all the previous good deals... Hhhmmm... Whatever.

It's the Custom Shop pickup I'm after, having played a few recent models (2011 and 2012 sounded different). So when I asked my "friend" for a NEW P bass, I expected a 2012, and got the Aug 5, 2009... Not happy about that...

BTW, I REALLY like the "look" of the 3 tone burst! Just wish the neck were darker, like the '62RI... Maybe I can stain it?

Also like the feel of the neck... Though I think the satin feels better than the gloss (my 2011 has a satin finished neck).

My 2011 has the grease bucket tone too, which I don't care for... Think I'll change that next...

FWIW, on Fender's web site, for the 5 string American Standards, they call them the American Standard Jazz Bass Single-Coils and the American Standard Precision Bass Alnico V Split Single-Coil (the 5 strings don't have the Custom Shop pickups). So, I guess that's what I meant. I forgot that "American Series" is a term of art from a previous line.
