Any Paulownia Bodies Out there?

I picked up a bass for $50 off CL.
The tuners were stripped and it
had a short, But it's got a decent
neck that I was able to dress up
and the body is pauowina.

This thing weighs 6 lb 12 oz.

I got a set of Highway 1 tuners
for $25 with free shipping off
eBay. The thing that really floors
me is that the cheap pickup sounds
just like a MIA Ash Fender P bass,

Is that ornament on the h/stock from a car? Is that neck maple? The grain doesn't quite look like it.

That's actually some pretty nice looking grain on the body. At 6lbs 12oz you can't go wrong. My main p-bass weighs around the same , and it's worth it's weight in gold to me (especially on 4 hour gigs.). Great score for $50, enjoy!

You can get those at Wal-Mart real cheap. Seems
like they were on a 1950's Ford.

The neck is maple. It went through a progression.

I reshaped the headstock and took all the finish off
and did a fret job and refinish it. I used some wood
stain I had on hand. It looks funny, but it was free.
I don't want to put any more money in it,

I used Paulownia for 3 basses, they are among the lightest basses I have: Mustang 4lb 13oz, J about 6lb 5oz, and a SCPB slab style body 5lb 12oz.

My DIY Slab SCPB style:

Paulonia is the tonewood of Traben Chaos Core basses

The ones with RockField humbucker pickups and a StingRay "wannabe" pickup switching

Light basses indeed, with a feeling of their own and a whole lotta power, yet they're not that versatile

Cheers,
Wallace

Body from guitarfetish, finished with acrylic lacquer, mighty mite maple J neck, and chromes. The rest is from guitarfetish.

It's my main bass! Super light, looks good and sounds amazing! Was really cheap to build, so I can take it to the sketchy shows and not worry about it.

Thank you! And the tape is there because I tend to smack strings on the pickup when I dig in. The tape keeps that from making ungodly popping noises.

I had a paulownia P bass I made from a Guitar Fetish body. Super light and sounded good. The wood is very soft though so you have to be careful about handling it. My drill just about punched through the body when I was drilling pickguard holes.
