Anyone know anything about Vig basses?

In particular the Cobra, which you can see here: http://www.vig-guitars.gewamusic.com/

I want to get back into bass after 21 years - I think I'm going through a midlife crisis, so I thought this would be a fun way to do it. A guy at a local shop showed me a Vig they had on display, which he said is from a brand new company. It costs about half the price of the Warwick Corvette standard I'd been drooling over. Has anyone heard anything about this bass?

Thanks!

It looks like a teenager's bass
If you want to buy this kind of instrument, you really are going through a midlife crisis. Just joking
More seriously, I wouldn't buy a Vig, because it looks like an Esp Ltd copy with no-name (for me at least) pick ups on it. I don't see any added value in it, compared to an Esp... (Sorry for my english)

Looks like the ESP B series to me. I kinda like the Anarchy one though, its different. Just really reminds me of an ESP.

Maybe it's priced for the midlife crisis crowd...

It's a market with huge potential, if you ask me. Middle-aged men with children, mortgages, and wives who don't understand why on earth their husbands would want to buy a bass when there's so much yardwork to be done.

The name 'Cobra' kind of turns me off, though. That's exactly what a teenager would call a bass. They should come up with a Fogie line. How about the Pacemaker?

We'll get marketing to look into it...

ok I found this old thread by accident while checking if VGS (VIG) was popular outside UE.

VIG is now VGS guitars. A swiss/german company. I think their 'pro' series are all manufactured in germany, while other 'low end' series are manufactured in asia (korea if I remember well) and assembled in Germany.

I personally own a 4 strings Cobra (among a Fender MIM deluxe jazz V, RB warwick STD fretless and RB warwick fortress 5) and let me tell you that VGS basses are far, far away from being ESP copies.
They are pretty high end instruments (compared to my other basses). Entry level models are shipped with Artec pickups/pre-amps (3 bands) while pro series use Duncan gear.
The finish is *extremely* good and impressive.
Mine has a solid mahogany neck and body (neck through body, which also means that VGS does not mass produce...) with a spalted maple top and a rosewood fingerboard.
Platinum gotho like tuners and hipshot A like bridge. Pictures avail on demand. She is a beauty.

Playability is very good, sound is good, seems very durable. Honestly, for the price I paid mine (500USD), you cannot go wrong!
If I had to chose b/w my warwick RB fotresss and the VGS, I'd go VGS without a doubt (and no...I ain't working for vgs!)

btw their website is now: www.vgs-guitars.com

I tried a Poison 5 Select and even did a little review on an italian forum

As it's already been pointed out,it's basically a copy of a B series LTD.The one I tried out had a set neck, the bridge looked very sturdy and allowed for a pretty low action without any buzzing, while i found the plastic inlays really cheap looking.Pick ups and preamp sounded a bit dull and really boomy,so my conclusion is that upgrading the latter would result in a pretty decent instrument.
The price was also pretty low and i think it might be a very good alternative to the usual Yamaha/Ibanez low-mid end basses

cheers

i own the same Poison 5 select, itīs the first one i bought
pretty sturdy i would say, though itīs rather lightweight ... a decent Les Paul guitar probably weighs 50% more
the sound really is bassy, but i wouldnīt say itīs a bad thing, just a matter of personal preference

paid 180€ for a used one, and donīt regret it at all, especially since it feels quite good in my tiny hands

i have the cobra 5 string.very nice with punchy sound.i get it new with 350 euros, put it in my marschall mb150 and it sounds very good,i wass playing thrash metal like sodom or violator and it was fantastic.now i am playing funk-jazz-blues staff and i dont need hes strong mids but its pretty good.my teacher likes it(he has warwick thumb bolt-on 6-string)
its good bass and easy to play.exelent slaping tone.now i would change the pickups and electronics with duncan staff and i hope to become a very good bass and not a crap.and yes its a very good.never mind because is unknown brand.just look at the sound it gets..
