Anyone know this bass? Vintage?

hi all, i got this bass from a friend who knew i was a bass player. It was in an attic collecting dust.

Surprisingly when plugged it everything still works.

looks to be hofner style body but i think might be a knockoff?

anyhow, i would love to find any kind of info on this. It has no badges or stamps that i see other then the serial #.

I haven't opened it up. but maybe i should in case there is a manufacturer inside??

thanks in advance for any expert info

Be nice to have a headstock front face close-up.

I'm going Univox or Aria Pro Scroll violin bass. Probably Matsumoku?

Univox used to make a bass a long time ago that looked a lot like that one.

Definitely Matsumoku based on the neckplate. Aria, Conrad, and Univox would all be possible brands.

I really like the look of that bass. A local GC had a used one here in Cincinnati about a year ago. The knobs wouldn't move and it was a little beat up but IIRC they were asking about $500 for it. Sounded nice and played well but I passed because of the condition and knob issue.
Get the Univox pickguard on that thing and rock it!
