I am still wondering why Jaco would have had a bass with him in a Peaches for an autograph session....that right there had me going..ummmm, this is not right. The incorrect date relative to his death not withstanding...

Skip pedigree & controversy issues with mysterious instruments: Reason #9 why when I want a bass, I just buy a new one.

Other than that, the bass posted in the ad looks like it's all there...except the finish.

The story is bogus sounding but the bass seems pretty nice.

Reality check, please

So what really happened? I get the doubt here, but is it absolutely impossible- aside from the year claimed- for this to be legit? I am NOT voting one way or the other, but if the year bit is an honest mistake, and the guy is not really aware of what this might truly be worth..? I am curious as to the truth here.

Going to buy this if it's still for sale. Price is fair, and if Jaco farted in its general direction, then well, we're good.

This would go easier if the guy's voice mail weren't full and he'd answer his email.

Que sera.

So what ever happened here?

Any answers?

Yes, it just dawned on me I haven't read the last page of comments, and may find my answer there. Sorry! But why waste perfectly good phone typing?

Sooooo I'm posting this anyway, so there!

I couldn't say with 100 % certainty, but my take would be that since he brought Jaco's name up as a selling point (or why mention it at all), if it was legit, he'd be fully aware of it's value.

Didn't he specifically mention getting the attention of collectors in the ad?

I emailed the seller and asked him to clarify the claim that he obtained the bass from Jaco in 1988. I asked if it was possible that he had the date wrong since Jaco died in 1987. Given the fact that its been almost one week since I sent the email and the seller hasn't responded, I'm of the opinion that it is a scam.

Gosh, people are blinded by the possibility of a big score sometimes.

It doesn't pass any test of authenticity, other than a CL description, which takes 5 seconds to write. The bass doesn't resemble one he's been seen with, the description is laughable, and the price is stupid no matter who played it. Get real, or be prepared to lose your money, my friends!!

$1200 for a 74 Jazz is stupid? As you wish.

I e-mailed five times and called five times. No response to the e-mails and the phone mailbox was always full.

It was a favor to a friend in another country, who would've been happy with the bass itself for the price. The fact that it may have been owned by Jaco was a plus but not the main reason my friend wanted it.

Maybe the seller fell over dead right after he posted the ad and is lying right next to the bass as we speak, his phone ringing and ringing and ringing...
