I think it looks like a very good specimen. I'd collect though. It needs playing first since the narrow string spacing might not be your thing. It looks like a great instrument though. Not a bad price, about average I think.

What do you think - is it worth the price? I would dearly love a 30 year old P bass (who wouldnt!?), but cant afford one, so this seems a good compromise. I play mostly funk (the JBs, New Mastersounds etc...) | Looking at the serial number it's a 1980 not 1984 model.
If it was me I'd go and try it out, then, if I liked it I'd see if they'd move on the price, £400 is a good price but it's a buyers market.
Good luck |

I've never picked one up as much as I am doing with this Aria SB-1000 RI. I think waiting all these years for one and associating it with my teens growing up in the UK with Big Country, The Jam and Duran has given it an emotional aspect I don't feel towards any other bass. Also, its "that tone" I've spent 30 years looking for.
Man, all that sounds wussy! |

In 2004, just after me and the wife moved to Baltimore, we went to see Stiff Little Fingers (a Northern Irish punk band) at the Black Cat in D.C. Bruce Foxton was their bassist for about 15 years and was with them at the time. After the gig, we nipped around the back of the club to try and find the tour bus. Ian McAllum the rhythm guitarist was outside the bus having a smoke. I (naughtily) blagged that we had flown from Wales in the UK just to see the gig. He was so taken aback that he invited us onto the bus. I made a bee-line for Bruce. He cracked us a Heineken and we spent 30 minutes talking about his basses. When I asked him about his Aria and if he still had it, he said "Was that the mustard-colored one"? I said "yes - the one you played on The Tube (a UK Live music show from the eighties) for your final gig with The Jam". He replied, "its up in my attic - I'll have to get it back into action"
Anyhow, thats my only meeting with Foxton and discussion about his Aria. He's a dedicated Fender player now (Black 57 re-issue). What a great bloke though. They say be careful about meeting your heroes, but Foxton is a genuinely lovely, down-to-earth and hospitable fella. I guess the true-geniuses have nothing to prove. One of my highlights. A great bloke to crack a beer with!

Imagine an affordable reissue of SBs of all colors with the neck through showing. |

Also I've come across a couple candy apple red SB Elites. Right now I have a solid red SB-700, as opposed to the usual see through red, in the care of a friend in Japan (see attachement). Haven't seen any others like it yet.
BTW, great Foxton story! I checked out a 2004 performance of the band and they were great! Quote:

As Immigrant said earlier, it would be great if the SB / SBR range could be reissued with the some solid color options with the wood stripe still visible. Plus also the traditional finishes. Hopefully a higher level of production would also deliver the economies of scale to make the pricing more accessible.
