Zuma, are you able to go to the NAMM show and at least play it?

I wish you could snag one of these - I'd love to see you do a video with it!

It looks like the Burton sigs will sell for about 588,000 Yen and be limited to a run of 250. Aria's Japanese site has a page for it now:

It will apparently be some sort of super charged Cliff Burton reissue frankenstein bass in a beautiful body. I kind of wish I had found a more direct replacement but maybe I could sell the mb-v s if I don't like them. I believe the whole transaction including shipping was about the same as 1 Rautia pickup. I was not aware that Rautia did all of the MB variations, I would have needed to investigate that further before the quick action which might have been driven by the fact that it was their last remaining Aria SB pickups and they were eager to get rid of them. Let us know if you buy anything and what they offer since it's not on their site.

Go try it. Bid as much as you think or find it is worth. As long as the bid is non-committal then cool. You need to be able to push it when testing. No bedroom volume. Feel comfortable testing, don't go in sheepish. If it is not worth the money you bid, then that is it. It is not worth the money and walk away. It is not the last amp in the world.

It's not only not the last amp in the world, it's not even a bass amp is it? I's a six channel powered mixer from what I can see and using that as a bass head would be less than exciting. You'd have plenty of other inputs for CD players and drum machines and other bassists but the preamp might not give you the best gain structure or tone control and it's probably under powered too.
Here's a reasonable bass amp that one can grow into:

I spend 90% of my time going through a small Mackie mixer in to my powered M-Audio BX 6.5s.

Otherwise I go through whatever backline has been rented.

Nice. I've been bouncing between a GK MB-500 and a Hartke LH500 through an AK410 cab and a Sansamp Para Driver.

I picked up a Metal Muff and a Morley Power Wah for some Cliff screams.

Played my SB1000RI in a gig last night for the first time. With no hesitation, I can state that I have never had so many compliments about tone. Also it proved to catch the eye of a lot of the gig-goers. Some bass indeed.

I played through a Sansamp BDDI, into my Mesa Walkabout head and through a Mesa powerhouse cab. The net effect was awesome. I love this SB.

If it sounds as good as it looks...

Did you use the 6 position tone selector much, or just play it in bypass mode?

If I call "1" as being the "deepest" (furthest counter-clockwise setting) setting and "6" as the "toppiest" (furthest clock-wise setting), I used as follows:

Active engaged with all. (I call it "Active" - apologies if wrong term).

- "6" for finger style numbers.
- "3" with a pick for almost (to my ear) a P bass type sound for punkier numbers.
- "1" for smooth, round "sub-bass" lines.

I found all three thoroughly usable. All with volume and tone wide open, except for one (cover of "with or without you) where I used setting "1" and dialed back on the tone a little too.

I said this before and I'll say it again. I have searched for this tone for 30 years and feel I have found it at last.

Those are useable settings, definitely. I found that the other settings cut through different mixes. Certainly a great addition.

I bought the SB II Elite in 1989, when Rudy Sarzo was the signature artist. I played the F out of that bass for 8 years, then traded it in 1997. The passive pickups in that thing weighed about 3 lbs. each; they were huge. I swapped them out for EMG active soapbars.
I saw some pics in this thread of someone's SBIIE, and it brought back fond memories.
Here's a pic of me playing it at a gig in 1992.Click image for larger version

Ha! I have an SB Elite I with the same finish. Mine's an 84, boy does it smoke, I'm thinking about going Alembic with the electronics like Rudy Sarzo.
