I could have had a real shot at winning!
Anyway, over $17k! I wonder who won it? A member of Metallica maybe, or the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame? | It was an auction from 2008 but no The Edge was not selling it. There was just a bunch of U2 stuff. Also some pretty cool other stuff. Jimmy Page guitar, Cobain stuff, lots of Beatles stuff but as a huge Metallica fan this caught my eye. Too bad it was not then. Not that I would have had the money for it. |

Yours is beautiful! I snagged mine a few months ago and it still had the plastic on the cavity cover and tuner backs, a "How to Play Bass" book, and a brand new strap. Brand new from 1980!
FWIW, I saw a TSB-400 on Evilbay. Kind of beat up, but it's similar to what I was looking for when I got my CS. |

Thanks |

Thanks | Aria on the headstock and the "Steel Reinforced Neck" neckplate. Matsumoku all the way!
Looks to be early 70's vintage, sadly they are not quite as good at the late 70's and 80's ones. Probably worth a couple of hundred dollars, more or less.

Obviously on ebay and such but also on MF and GC and other sites even Aria themselves. Like where'd the idea to sell at premium prices come up? It just makes their basses harder to own as it is rarely will you find that good samaritan on ebay who puts a reasonable price. My dream bass is an Aria Pro ii SBCB but I would never shell out 2k for it or any instrument for that matter |

Anecdotal storytelling and Aria's willingness to perpetuate it seems to have put that whole SB-1000 thing into people's minds irretrievably.
You're right. The less popular models are cheaper, including the models that Cliff actually did play. How ironic!

I think John Taylor's association with the 1000 is probably the most lasting.
But to the topic of "Arias are overpriced", they can still be found at reasonable prices, you just have to be patient. So don't jump on the first SB Re-Issue you see selling for $2500! Quote:

Creepy playground, Anthony!!

Creepy playground, Anthony!! | Yes, that would be the 1978 SB-800. It was a Bolt-On SB-1000. Only made in '78. http://ariabasses.blogspot.com/2010/...ii-sb-800.html
The BnG II Wanna-Be is a 1991 SB-1000. It's essentially an SB-LTD, but the pickups say "Aria Pro II on them instead of "Alembic". The electronics may or may not be Alembic, but it looks Just Like under the hood of my SB-LTD. I got this, (and the 5er!) from Jason. (Alembic83) These 2 basses will probably be my "Gigging Pair" once I finish the "Upgrades on the 5er." FS: Aria Pro II SB Series
Yes, that playground is my backyard. There are Many "Things" buried out there. But there is room for More!

I had a white Aria Pro II, 4 string with point headstock, in 1991 (to about 1998) and I always wondered where that bass went.
It was dropped (not too hard) so there was some minor chipping on the bottom. And real distinguishing mark - the active / passive toggle switch had broken and I put in one from Radio Shack with a flat switch (original was round)...
Just curious!! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
