I got a hold of one of these today, people! An ATK 200 NT
Setup was great, about a medium action, right out of the box and it was in tune!
Neck pocket was tight and overall fit and finish was pretty damned awesome.
The body was 3 pieces but well matched on the front. The Wilkinson mini tuners were classy looking and operated smoothly>
The headstock and body are "downsized" a tad ... I don't care for the ATK logo on the headstock but the old one wouldn't quite fit with the smaller headstock.
The control plate fit perfectly and it had a "pop up" battery compartment....no more looking for a screw driver .... big plus>
The switch that operates coil choice is beefy and solid, very unlike what we've been accustomed to>
Now.... the pickup
I was on the fence about the switch to the new pickup design....not any more!
It sounded like an ATK should..
It has 3 very distinct tones ... You wouldn't think that there would be that much difference between the front and rear coils solo'd .... But there is!
Front sounds like the traditional mode we're accustomed to...center is ATTACK mode....right on the money
Rear is a beefier solo'd rear pickup Jazz Bass tone.
I don't think that you'll be hearing complaints about not being able to hear the difference between settings.
Fret and nut work were well
above what I expected.
The frets are a tad smaller than on the 300's ...a plus for me as that's what I prefer, with no sharp edges at all
I also liked the sharper radius on the body....gave it a more modern look.
Still not a light weight...had a substantial feel to it
It would be hard to consider the 200 series a "down grade" from the 300's at all.
Very well executed instrument at a killer price point..
